UV AIR PURIFIER

The Rickard UV Air Purifier combines the protective power of UVC light and the performance of Rickard diffusion to give you a diffuser that not only keeps you comfortable but reduces the risk of exposure to viruses too. Rickards patented UV induction treatment system induces air from the room and through the diffusers UV treatment zone where it is treated. The induction system is quietly powered by the discharge of conditioned air and therefore does not need fans or external power.

Rickards patented UV induction treatment system induces air from the room and through the diffusers UV treatment zone where it is treated. The induction system is quietly powered by the discharge of conditioned air and therefore does not need fans or external power.

This treatment strategy is particularly effective as it treats circulated room air and supplies fresh air. In this way, pathogens within the room are treated by UV light and the viral load is reduced by adding fresh air. VAV diffusers are also excellent at providing air circulation without creating drafts. Since the velocity drops to below 0.25m/s in the occupied zone, pathogens are less likely to be spread if a contaminant is present.

If a floor's return air is mixed with fresh supply air as is the norm, Rickard recommends the return air be treated with UV light in the duct. This will ensure that uncontaminated air is supplied.
The UV Air Purifier is able to clean 20l’s of air per second, deactivating approximately 98% of viruses in the Corona category in a single pass. The diffusers deactivation rate allows it to treat the equivalent of a typical room (4.5 x 4.5m) in less than 45 minutes. The combination of air purification, clean air supply and low draft rates makes the UV Air Purifier the answer to the threat of viruses in a space.

The UV Air Purifier is available for VSD1, VCD1, CSD3, CCD3 and as an add on to VCD1, VSD1, CSD3 and CCD3 diffusers.
Since the UV air purifier is an addition to the diffuser and offers no restriction, the operation and performance remain unchanged.

INSTALLATION
Installation is the same procedure as for a standard ceiling diffuser. Separate 220VAC is required to power the lamps or the MLM light switching unit should one be fitted.

OPERATING COST
The UV purifier section uses 2 off 8W lamps with a current draw of less than 0.1Amp/diffuser.

MAINTENANCE
The lamps fitted have a typical lifespan of about 9000 hours. If used for 8 hours/day and 261 workdays in a year they should last for more than 4 years before requiring replacement.
Please dispose of used lamps responsibly.

The UV Air Purifier has been designed to be safe for occupants. NIOSH guidelines limit exposure to 8 hours/day for 253.7nm UVC at an intensity of 0.2uW/cm2. The Rickard UV purifier is designed to meet these requirements. Note: Rickard recommends the lamps be turned off when cleaning or changing as the proximity to the lamps will be closer than during normal occupation.
To control the lamps remotely, Rickards light switching is available. The lamps can be switched through the MLM application or alternatively when the space becomes occupied if a occupancy sensor is also fitted. Since the lamps need their own power, power can also be switched at the outlet or by switching the circuit that powers a number of outlets.

The diffusers deactivation rate allows it to treat the equivalent of a typical room (4.5 x 4.5m) in less than 45 minutes. These values are calculated at a neck total pressure of 30Pa.

The UV purifier does not effect the air distribution performance of the diffuser.

The UV Air Purifier can be used in any application where a central air-conditioning system is installed and where occupants need to be protected from the risk of pathogens. VAV and CAV types are available for either application. Guidelines recommend that occupants should not be exposed for more than 8 hours/day. The units work in both heating and cooling.
